“Advocacy and lobbying, widening the reach of your testimonials and also enabling anonymous first person accounts, because the lure is still fear of stigma/discrimination when talking about practices against carers.”
— Male, 25-44, freelance/self-employed crew, London, Making It Possible survey, 2015
Raising Films is a community and a campaign: all our actions come from you, our members. The more we know about how you’re making it possible, what you need to continue, what’s worked and what has stopped you working, the more effective action we can build together. From intimate interviews to detailed case studies, we are breaking down the taboos that lead to discrimination. It’s an honour that inspiring, world-class artists such as Susanne Bier, Beeban Kidron, Julie Dash, Emma Donoghue and Alice Lowe have shared their film-raising stories and secrets with us – and equally exciting to hear from assistant editors, production assistants, designers, first-time doc directors, screenwriters, and directors of photography.
Here you can find advice and insight on being a parent and/or carer in almost every role in the film industry. Almost: there’s always room for more – from you!
We love to hear from you so please do tell us your thoughts and experiences. What do you think of Raising Films so far? Tell us what might help you as a parent working in film? What wouldn’t work for you and why? Please email us to let us know your stories and ideas and/or sign up for our members area here (price: free!)
