Resources

Raising Films is both a campaign and a community and we want to take action together to make it possible for all of us to balance creative and caring practices.

We’ve put together the following resources to help individuals, productions, production companies, festivals and conferences, training schemes and educational institutions. These resources are aimed to encourage positive change within the screen sector, across all areas of film and TV. We signpost within these resources and also share suggestions and recommendations both from our own experiences and based on the experiences and best practices from our wider community.

It’s Time to Talk to Your Manager About Caring

This online resource from PiPA (Parents and Carers in Performing Arts) was released in January 2021 in response to the third COVID lockdown guidance to help people have open and honest conversations with their manager about the challenges they are facing. It includes some responsive, practical solutions to support you to continue working effectively whilst also navigating these challenging times. The resource includes some suggested prompts to help facilitate these conversations with your manager and steer the conversation to positive, helpful and practical solutions. PiPA has also created ‘Retaining Your Parent & Carer Workforce Throughout Covid-19‘ – a partner resource for managers  which PiPA suggests you share with your manager before these conversations take place. PiPA promotes best practice employment and support for parents and carers in the performing arts sector by working collaboratively with the industry to develop and implement the PIPA Best Practice Charter and strategies for change, by data collection, research, and lobbying. Additional resources

We’ve been lucky to work alongside excellent collaborators who are championing equality and inclusion, advocating for parental rights in the workplace, and taking action across the screen sector and wider creative industries.

Here are some of the successful strategies, resources and routes to change that we’ve learned from them, and from our work so far. We know that we’re asking some of the busiest people around to add more to their plates, so there’s everything from reading up on your rights to being part of a protest. Whatever works for you, Raising Films wants you in on the action!
