Making It Possible – join us at EIFF

The Raising Films team are excited to announce a unique opportunity for emerging filmmakers to access expert, personalised advice and support on balancing film and family.

In partnership with EIFF and Directors UK, and funded by Creative Scotland, Raising Films is holding a career planning and personal development session for 16 film industry professionals, who are facing the challenge of balancing their professional life and their current or future dependents.

This is a recognised but unchallenged problem in our industry, and very much part of the diversity conversation that is currently taking place. In 2016 Creative Scotland is undertaking research on Screen Equalities, Diversity & Inclusion across the sectors workforce to further address issues of under-representation within the Scottish Screen Sector, while Directors UK has just released their ‘Cut out of the Picture’ report showing systemic gender bias. Raising Films have begun an industry-wide conversation about how caring responsibilities can affect careers and, as a community, are exploring practical, sustainable solutions. The results of our recent survey will be shared in the morning session (10.30am to 12.30pm), which afternoon delegates are expected to attend.

Each participant will have a one-on-one session with a series of experts, able to give advice relevant to each individual’s set of circumstances. Drawn from legal, financial, psychological and talent management organisations with established connections to the industry, they will offer personalised and realistic guidance, as well as the opportunity for peer support within the group. Together with assistance from a leading life coach, participants will leave equipped with the tools and knowledge to move forward with their career and personal plans, and will be offered a follow-up online mentoring session specific to their needs.

The event will take place on Wednesday 22 June from 2pm to 5pm, central Edinburgh location TBC.

Applications from Scottish and UK filmmakers are encouraged, and there may be additional support available for travel and accommodation for those living outside the Lothians area, who are members of Directors UK.
